Heat
Summers go past 40 °C, and a hot panel produces less. Origin loses little power as it heats up, so it performs when the sun is strongest.2

Anatomy
On a conventional panel, part of the surface produces nothing. On Origin, almost all of it does.
The metal lines that collect the current run across the front of every cell. They work, but they shade the cell itself.

On Origin, every electrical contact sits on the back of the cell. The front has no lines and no wires: about 95 % of the panel's surface collects light.1

The cells overlap slightly, like tiles on a roof. The gaps between them disappear and the panel gains active area right to the edge.1
The numbers

The climate
40 °C summers, sea air, storms and shade that shifts with the seasons. A panel faces all of it for decades.
Inland
Summers go past 40 °C, and a hot panel produces less. Origin loses little power as it heats up, so it performs when the sun is strongest.2
Coast
From Minho to the Algarve, many homes sit close to the sea. Origin is certified to withstand salt mist (IEC 61701).2
Storms
Origin's tempered glass is tested against large hailstones at almost 100 km/h.2
Any roof
A chimney, an aerial or fallen leaves cover a cell. On Origin, that cell doesn't overheat and the rest of the panel keeps producing.3
2026 → 2065
The worst case, in writing: the minimum the warranty guarantees, year by year, and what that minimum produces on a roof in Viseu.4
Year 1 · 2026
We design, license and install. We register the warranty in your name, and monitoring starts on day one.
Year 10 · 2035
Preventive maintenance and production reviews. If something drifts, we are the first to know.
Year 25 · 2050
This is where a typical panel warranty ends. Origin's carries on for another 15 years.
Year 40 · 2065
Forty years on, the warranty still guarantees at least 89.3 % of the original power.
Enbiente estimate: 10 Origin 505 W panels (5.05 kWp) in Viseu, facing south at 35°, 14 % losses, counting only the guaranteed minimum power. Not a production promise.5 CO₂ avoided at the 2023 grid emission factor. As the grid gets cleaner, the real figure tends to be lower.6
| Year | Guaranteed minimum power | Cumulative energy (MWh) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 99.0 % | 7.5 |
| 10 | 96.8 % | 74.5 |
| 25 | 93.0 % | 182.7 |
| 30 | 91.8 % | 217.9 |
| 40 | 89.3 % | 286.7 |
The warranty
Many warranties cover the panel but not the work of replacing it. Origin's covers the product, the power and the service, for up to 40 years.
We register the warranty for you, on installation day. With registration it's 40 years; without, it would be 30.4

Every figure on this page, in full detail and in SunPower's own words. If anything's unclear, we'll explain.
In a conventional solar cell, the metal lines that collect the current sit on the front and shade the cell itself. In back-contact cells, every contact is on the back. The front is left free to collect light, which means higher efficiency and an all-black look. SunPower was the first to produce these cells at commercial scale, in 2004.
Partial shade is the worst case for any panel, because it heats up the covered cell. According to SunPower, Origin's architecture keeps a shaded cell below 100 °C while the rest of the panel keeps producing, and the panel holds TÜV Rheinland's A+ shade-resistance rating. Even so, good design starts by avoiding shade, which is what we assess in the roof survey.
Yes. The SunPower module limited warranty applies to panels sold in Spain and Portugal. It covers product, power and service for 40 years, provided the warranty is registered online. Without registration, a 30-year warranty applies.
We do. When we install a SunPower system, we register the warranty in your name and hand you the confirmation.
It depends on the roof, orientation, shading and the panel it is compared with. What SunPower guarantees is power over time: at least 99 % in year one and 89.3 % in year 40. In your roof survey, we run the numbers for your case.
