Rugby Clube de Tondela - solar self-consumption, LED lighting and efficient hot water
Integrated energy efficiency solution at Rugby Clube de Tondela: 4 kWp photovoltaic, replacement of 32 floodlights with LED and a 12 kW Panasonic heat pump with a 3,000-litre tank. Estimated 70% reduction in energy costs and complete elimination of gas consumption.
Sports facilities carry costs that never stop: pitch lighting, changing rooms, hot water. At Rugby Clube de Tondela, the answer was not one solution but three - photovoltaic, LED and heat pump. Each targets a different consumption. Together, they eliminate gas and cut the bill by 70%.
A more efficient club, on and off the pitch.
Following approval of their application to the IPDJ Sports Facilities Rehabilitation Programme, Rugby Clube de Tondela put in place an energy improvement plan to cut costs, eliminate gas consumption, and increase the sustainability of their facilities.
The challenge
Integrate multiple energy efficiency measures into an existing sports facility, reducing operating costs without compromising the quality of services provided to athletes, coaching staff and other users.
- 70% estimated reduction in energy costs
- 100% elimination of gas consumption
32 floodlights. A pitch lit to last.
Design and implementation
Enbiente designed and implemented an integrated energy efficiency solution, acting across three core areas: energy generation, lighting, and domestic hot water.
- 4 kWp photovoltaic system for self-consumption
- Replacement of 32 floodlights with high-efficiency LED technology
- 12 kW Panasonic Aquarea Monobloc heat pump
- 3,000-litre domestic hot water storage tank
- Modernisation of the sports complex energy infrastructure
The result
The combination of measures significantly reduced the facility's energy costs and permanently eliminated gas use for domestic hot water. Over the photovoltaic system's lifetime, it is expected to generate more than 47 MWh of renewable energy and avoid approximately 57 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. More than a cost reduction, this project allowed Rugby Clube de Tondela to modernise its facilities and build the conditions for a more efficient, sustainable and future-ready operation.
