Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between mono-split, multi-split and VRF?

A mono-split has one outdoor and one indoor unit, ideal for a single room. Multi-split connects one outdoor unit to two to six indoor units with independent control per room. VRF (variable refrigerant flow) is for entire buildings: dozens of indoor units, per-zone control and BMS integration. The right choice depends on the number of zones, the level of control required and the building type.

What is a heat pump and how does it work?

A heat pump is a system that produces heating and cooling by extracting energy from the outdoor air, with efficiencies far above an electric resistor. For every kWh consumed, it typically produces 3 to 5 kWh of thermal energy (COP 3 to 5). It is the most efficient technology for central heating in temperate climates like Portugal.

Does Enbiente install DHW and fan coil units?

Yes. In addition to air conditioning and heat pumps, we install fan coil units and domestic hot water (DHW) systems with heat pumps. These systems are often integrated into a single installation to maximise efficiency and comfort.

Does the system need regular maintenance?

Yes. Filter cleaning and an annual inspection of the units are essential to maintain efficiency and extend equipment life. Lack of maintenance can reduce performance by 20 to 30% and increase energy consumption. We offer preventive maintenance plans with scheduled visits and remote monitoring.

How long does air conditioning installation take?

A mono-split installation typically takes half a day. A multi-split system for a home takes 1 to 2 days. VRF systems for commercial buildings have timelines defined in the project. The total lead time, from proposal to handover, depends on equipment availability and the type of work.

Can climatization be integrated with solar production?

Yes, and it is a very efficient combination. Heat pumps consume electrical energy. If the building has solar production, the peak production hours often coincide with the greatest cooling demand. Integration with monitoring allows self-consumption to be optimised and the energy bill to be reduced even further.
