Electric mobility is no longer the future - it is the present.
Portugal has been making steady progress in the energy transition, and electric vehicles have become a real, accessible and increasingly popular option among Portuguese drivers.
But the growth of this sector brings new challenges: clear rules, fair prices and greater transparency are needed to protect consumers and encourage investment in infrastructure.
With this goal in mind, the Government recently presented a new legislative package that promises to transform the electric mobility landscape in the country.
Here are the main changes and what they may mean for you.
What do the new rules propose?
The proposals now under public consultation aim to simplify the sector and strengthen user confidence. Among the most relevant measures are:
1. Simpler and more transparent tariffs
All charge point operators will have to present their prices clearly and accessibly - both on their digital platforms and at the charging stations themselves.
The goal is to eliminate ambiguity and avoid surprises on the final bill.
2. Limiting fixed costs
Currently, some operators apply fixed fees per charging session, regardless of the energy consumed.
The new proposal aims to limit these costs, making the price more proportional to actual consumption and aligned with the principle of energy fairness.
3. Stricter contracting rules
The proposal also foresees specific rules for contracts between users and electricity suppliers for electric mobility.
The goal is to strengthen consumer protection by avoiding abusive practices and unclear contractual clauses.
A positive vision, with challenges
The measures are widely seen as a positive step towards a fairer and more accessible market.
However, several entities in the sector warn that a balance is needed between regulation and competitiveness.
- On one hand, it is crucial not to slow down the expansion of the public charging network, one of the sector's main current challenges.
- On the other, it is essential to ensure sustainable business models that continue to attract investment and innovation.
Enbiente's commitment to electric mobility
At Enbiente, we closely follow this legislative and technological evolution.
We know that those who adopt electric mobility are looking for simplicity, efficiency and trust - whether charging at home, at work or on the public network.
That is why we develop integrated solutions that guarantee a complete experience:
- Installation of smart chargers with real-time monitoring;
- Specialist technical support at every stage - study, sizing, installation and maintenance;
- Integration with solar energy systems, making each charge even more sustainable;
- Personalised and secure configuration, adapted to each user's needs.
The future is electric - and it must be simple
The energy transition is not built with technology alone, but with clear information and informed decisions.
The new rules are an important step towards consolidating a more transparent and user-centred market, bringing us closer to truly sustainable mobility.
If you want to know more about electric chargers, solar energy or energy efficiency solutions, we are here to help.
