Energy has always been a critical factor in agriculture.

Today, it is also one of its greatest operational risks.

Unpredictable costs, strong dependence on the electricity grid and high consumption during critical periods directly affect the profitability and stability of agricultural operations. This is the context behind a new public support scheme for energy efficiency and renewable energy in the agricultural sector, created under Ordinance No. 481/2025.

This is not simply a one-off incentive. It is a solid legal framework that opens the door to structural investments with a real impact on the sector’s energy autonomy.

What this support allows in practical terms

The scheme created by Ordinance No. 481/2025 provides non-repayable financial support for investments that include:

  • Renewable energy production for self-consumption
  • Energy storage through batteries
  • Energy-efficiency measures in agricultural buildings and equipment
  • Energy systems associated with water management, such as solar pumps

The objective is clear: to reduce energy dependence, lower operating costs and strengthen the competitiveness of Portuguese agriculture.

Who may benefit

The following entities may benefit from this support, subject to the opening of application calls:

  • Agricultural and livestock producers
  • Cooperatives and producer associations
  • Irrigation associations and equivalent entities

They must be legally established, have their tax and social security situation regularised, and be duly registered with IFAP.

The factor that makes this scheme especially relevant

In certain frameworks, support may reach up to 100% of the eligible investment, in the form of a non-repayable grant, while respecting the applicable regulatory limits.

This makes it possible to turn projects that were previously postponed into viable, structured investments with controlled risk.

Renewable energy is not just technology. It is strategy.

This support scheme is not just about installing solar panels or batteries.

It is about:

  • Producing energy where it is consumed
  • Consistently reducing the energy bill
  • Protecting the operation from energy price volatility
  • Ensuring predictability and long-term stability
  • Increasing the value and sustainability of the agricultural asset

When properly planned, the energy system stops being an unavoidable cost and becomes a strategic pillar of the business.

Why many projects fail without technical support

One of the most common mistakes is treating these investments as standard solutions.

Each agricultural operation has different consumption profiles, its own seasonality and very specific needs. Without a technical study, rigorous sizing and integration between production, storage and consumption, the investment loses efficiency and return.

Energy autonomy requires planning, engineering and a long-term vision.

Enbiente’s commitment

At Enbiente, we take on these projects in an integrated and responsible way: we manage the entire process, from start to finish.

This includes:

  • Detailed energy analysis of the agricultural operation
  • Technical and economic feasibility study
  • Rigorous sizing of the solutions
  • Technical support in preparing the investment and framing it within the public support scheme
  • Supply and installation of photovoltaic systems, batteries and solar pumps
  • Technical follow-up after implementation

The client does not have to manage entities, suppliers or isolated technical decisions.

At Enbiente, that responsibility is ours.

Take the next step with confidence

If you have an agricultural operation and want to understand how this new support can be applied to your specific case, talk to us.

At Enbiente:

  • we analyse your operation
  • we define the right energy solution
  • we frame the project within the support scheme created by Ordinance No. 481/2025
  • we handle the entire technical and implementation process

One partner. From study to execution. No noise. No improvisation.

Request your energy analysis now and prepare your operation for a new phase of autonomy, efficiency and energy security.

The legal framework already exists.

Well-prepared projects will be the first to move forward.
